Kingdom of Heaven

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven”  Matthew 5:3

This young lady sees her need for God; she is coming with empty hands, ready to receive God. She knows that when she seeks God, she will find Him. She has one goal – to love her God with all of her heart, soul and mind. God is represented in her hands with the Trinity symbol.  The kingdom of God flows out of this divine interaction – represented by the butterflies, feathers, and the jewels.

The Lord explained the different aspects of the painting to me with verses as I was painting it:

– The butterflies represent the verse: ‘where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.’ 2 Cor. 3:17

– The feathers represent angels: ‘Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?’ Heb. 1:14

– The jewels represent spiritual treasures: ‘It is the glory of God to conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings.’ Prov. 25:2. This is my favorite part of the kingdom of heaven: engaging with God and searching out the hidden treasures! What an adventure! I always feel His delight when he begins to reveal a secret to me, and I then get to search out the wisdom and understanding with Him!
